Abstract
How were material objects used to symbolize and solidify the admiration expressed for the first astronauts to walk on the Moon? In this article, the Curator and Chair of the Department of Space History at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum discusses some of the items that the museum collected from Neil Armstrong’s home and discusses the 38-day Giantstep Presidential Goodwill World Tour taken by the Apollo 11 astronauts.
