Tom Wilkinson
Biographic Sketch:
Tom Wilkinson is a third-year PhD student in history at the University of Auckland, New Zealand. His thesis, provisionally entitled Selling the Space Race: Narratives of American Space Exploration, 1957 – 1967, examines the varied constructions of American space exploration that proliferated through the early years of the Space Age, and seeks to answer why the “Space Race” became the dominant narrative of the era. This builds on the author’s unpublished Masters’ thesis, “Who Wants to Go to the Moon Anyway?”: American Responses to the Launch of Sputnik, 1957, which examined American reactions to the
launch of the first Sputnik in 1957.
