“The Great Reconfiguration: Politics and Diplomacy in the Space World, 2000-2050” by Brian Harvey
Published in Quest Volume: 31 #1 (2024)

Abstract

This speculative article reviews the politics and diplomacy of the space world at three milestone points: 2000, 2025, and 2050. The first 25 years saw the emergence, following the Roadmap (2009) of China as a space super-power. By midpoint, there was a fractured, bipolar world of Artemis vs. the International Lunar Research Station. By 2050, on an optimistic note, lunar bases had developed peacefully, side by side, like Antarctica, while new states from the global south developed their own agency to benefit from space exploration and applications.
