Abstract

In 2008, John Neer retired from an industry career of over 50 years in commercial, military, national security, civil, and international aerospace programs, in which he specialized in satellite guidance, navigation, and control systems. His career in the commercial space industry began at Hughes Aircraft working on satellites, at Ford Aerospace (on the multi-mission Insat 1 satellites for India and Intelsat 5), at Lockheed (Motorola/Iridium), and as CEO and president of Space Imaging, the first firm that provided high-resolution, intelligence-quality satellite images commercially. The following interview took place between Scott Sacknoff, publisher of Quest, and John Neer on 8 September 2025.
