“Gemini Contingency Information Plan: 11 May 1966”
Published in Quest Volume: 32 #2 (2025)
Abstract
Many of Quest’s readers are familiar with the Bill Safire memo to H.R. Haldeman, President Richard Nixon’s Chief of Staff, regarding the speech the President should give in the case that Apollo 11 crew were somehow stranded permanently on the Moon or wouldn’t make it back to Earth. (If not, check out Quest Volume 18 #2.) But what is not as well-known is the internal document, describing the roles and responsibilities of what do in the case of a Gemini Program incident along with preliminary statements to be made by parties from the President down to NASA Mission Control.
