Abstract

This article commemorates the centenary of the launch of the world’s first liquid-fuel rocket on 16 March 1926 by Robert H. Goddard and is the ideal opportunity to more closely examine the “enigma” of Goddard that also involved that most famous rocket flight. I further show that Goddard was both America’s foremost rocket and spaceflight pioneer.
