Abstract

Quest 33:2 carried a book review of Olga Dubrovina’s The Soviet Space Programme and International Collaboration during Perestroika, 1985-1991. Although historians of the Soviet and subsequent Russian space program could fill their shelves with Western narratives, accounts available to us written by historians “from the other side” are fewer in number, a gap compounded by the barrier of language. As she tells you, Olga Dubrovina comes from Russia, but has lived and worked in Italy for many years, currently at the University of Trieste. She has been published on a wide range of historical and international relations issues. With such a background, she is ideally placed to offer a fresh perspective on Soviet space history, with the promise of another on the Russian, post-perestroika period to come. The interview took place in February 2026.
